The concept of providing UPB Systems to the offshore industry is to gain access to previously un-exploitable oil reserves due to a lack of an economically viable solution.
Whilst the concept of the UPB System is new, it encompasses proven and existing systems including power generation, operational controls, hydrocarbon storage, control systems and offloading. The focus is on offering a simple and safe production system within a standard operating envelope to maximise the reliability and availability whilst minimising maintenance.
Due to the majority of new hydrocarbon discoveries being relatively small, new developments struggle to justify the costs of any of the current exploration and production methods. This new system therefore enables oil and gas operators to develop fields that would be at risk of losing their licences due to un-development.
The UPB System as well as being a highly attractive financial solution, due to not requiring personnel and reduced maintenance requirements the system is also extremely safe.
Another beneficial outcome of this system is having a significantly reduced environmental impact as when the system is relocated nothing from the UPB is left behind on the seabed.
